Melissa Matthews, PT, DPT, Cert. MDT
Melissa graduated from Central Michigan University in 2006 with a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) and Master of Science in Physical Therapy (MSPT). Melissa received her undergraduate degree in Health Fitness and Cardiac Rehabilitation from Central Michigan University. After graduating with her degrees in Physical Therapy, Melissa moved to Tampa, Florida where she practiced for 5 years before returning to Michigan.
Melissa’s prior experience in the hospital and rehab settings have helped influence her current approach to outpatient orthopedic physical therapy. She applies a variety of manual therapy techniques, individualized exercise programs and patient education in her patients' treatments. Melissa believes that patient’s understanding of their condition(s) will help them in their recovery process. She also believes in continuing to further her own knowledge of Physical Therapy throughout her entire career. She has attended several continuing education courses on a variety of orthopedic and related topics. Melissa is certified in Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (McKenzie method), and has completed the course offered through the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) to become a Credentialed Clinical Instructor in December 2008.
Melissa’s interest in Physical Therapy started in high school with her involvement in track and cheerleading. She has been able to experience Physical Therapy both as the patient and as the therapist. Melissa's interests outside of the clinic include running, weight training, reading and spending time with friends and her dog Lexi.
