The benefits of exercise have been extensively researched, documented, and are well known to provide extensive benefits both physically and mentally.
So why do the majority of human beings and specifically Americans lead sedentary lifestyles?
According to fitness.gov, “More than 80% of adults do not meet the guidelines for both aerobic and muscle-strengthening activities, and more than 80% of adolescents do not do enough aerobic physical activity to meet the guidelines for youth.”
I want you to take a minute and think about the reasons why you are not involved in a regular exercise routine. What types of barriers are present in your life that make it more difficult or get in the way of making time for physical activity? Create a list of these barriers and create solutions. Solutions can come in many forms including reaching out to your support system, creating a consistent schedule, creating goals, and following through with your goals.
Making a list will create a new neuronal link through the visual system into your Central Nervous System which helps us identify and overcome these potential issues. When you become more mindful of movement and restrictions to movement you create a life style that incorporates movement as an integral portion of your life rather than something that may be perceived as optional.
